Setting up Kin for kids and teens Guide
When you add a child from Family → Members → Add child, you choose how they’ll use Kin:
- Profile only. Part of the family for context, so Kin knows about them. They don’t sign in or chat.
- Child. Their own account with strong guardrails. Parents can read their conversations and messages. Web access starts off.
- Teen. Their own account with lighter guardrails. You see how much they message, never what they say. Web access starts on.
Kids sign in with a PIN you set. To change things later, open their profile from Family → Members. There you can turn Allow web access on or off, choose a new PIN with Set login PIN, or move them to a different type with Change account type. Making someone an adult can’t be undone.
With other families. The Groups with other families switch on their profile decides whether they can be added to conversations that include families you’re not connected to. Teens start on, children start off. Parents can always read a child’s or teen’s conversations with adults.
